M7.8 - Agencies Addressing Bisphenol A (BPA)

My topic of interest for the literature review is bisphenol A (BPA) exposure, specifically in children and adolescents but might expand to include adults. Multiple agencies have addressed BPA as a chemical that has effects on the reproductive system, and many people are exposed to it because it is the chemical in polycarbonate plastic and linings of metal cans.

California's Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) addressed BPA by including it in Proposition 65, which requires businesses to provide warnings about significant exposures to chemicals that cause cancer, birth defects, and other reproductive harms.

The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) has research efforts that include BPA initiatives where the NIEHS and the National Toxicology Program (NTP) have developed an integrated, multi pronged, consortium-based approach to optimize BPA-focused research investments to more effectively address data gaps and inform decision making.

  1. Hi Matt,
Thank you for the info on Prob 65! Your topic sounds interesting. I'm curious how it may impact children and adults differently, but also children are more vulnerable in their development so it makes sense that you may find more information on children. Hope your research is going well!

  2. Matt!!!
I love your topic! I have been obsessed with that topic since my group talked about it in our maternal health class. It is a great topic and everyone should know and be educated about it! I would definitely love to read your lit review!!
